Colourful Pork Omellette

Egg, Pork November 9th, 2007

colourful pork omellette

There are so many type of omellette recipes around and it can only be limited by your imagination. I remembered when I was young and was traveling on Malaysia Airlines, I was served a really delicious omellette on board. It’s one of those times when you wish you could have a second helping of airline food. No kidding!

Anyway, the omellette had its based ingredients of eggs, mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. I have since modified that dish a little and this time, I’ve added minced pork and capsicums (bell peppers) into it. A friend of mine came back from Cameron Highlands recently and bought me some good looking capsicums of the green, yellow and red varieties. So, I mixed all of them up for this omellette. The end result was a really tasty omellette which my daughter loved (she didn’t want to eat rice that night and preferred just to chomp down on the omellette).

Invitation to The Delicious Asian Food Fest

Miscellaneous November 7th, 2007

Food Fest Banner

Most of the recipes here at Hochiak! Delicious Asian Food are Chinese as I am Chinese. However, there are thousands of recipes out there which represent Asian food which I’ve yet to discover or learn how to cook them.

I think it is about time to create some kind of promotion for Delicious Asian Food here. Not from my recipes but from you! I would like to invite all of you to participate in the Delicious Asian Food Fest by submitting to me a recipe which you have posted in your blog. Only one recipe submission per person and it must be an authentic Asian recipe, or at the very least, heavily influenced by ingredients found in Asia. Read the rest of this entry »

Stir Fried Fish Slices with Ginger and Spring Onions

Fish November 5th, 2007

fish slices

Stir fried fish slices with ginger and spring onions (scallions) is a simple yet delicious dish to prepare. You can use fresh fish or frozen fish such as dory for this dish. White fish is preferred. The key to this dish is having a stove with really hot flame so that you can cook this dish fast. Cook it a little longer and it will turn a tad too soggy.

There is essentially two parts to cooking this dish. Firstly, to marinade and lightly fry the fish till it’s cooked or almost cooked. Secondly, to cook it with ginger and spring onions. Though it is usually found in commercial eateries, you can try it at home just like what I did.

Q-Chai Soup

Soup, Vegetable October 31st, 2007

q chai soup

Chinese people are fond of drinking soup and it is amazing the types of soup which they cook. Part from meat based soup, vegetable based soup is also highly popular, including the use of leafy greens. One of the vegetables which can be used for a simple and quick to cook soup is the Q-chai. I have tried hard to look for the exact name for this vegetable but to no avail. Q-chai is the hokkien name for this vegetable. It looks like lettuce but it has a stem not unlike pak choy. If anyone knows the exact name for this vegetable, do let me know. In the meantime, I can only show you what it looks like prior to cooking. The stem is thinner than pak choy.

q chai

You can stir fry this vegetable with garlic just like many of the leafy greens but this vegetable fares quite nicely as a simple soup. This is the recipe for Q chai soup. Read the rest of this entry »
