I stole this from Make$ Money$
Miscellaneous July 11th, 2007
Let’s take a break from recipes for today, shall we? Why? Well, I am not a full-time cook (though I secretly hope to be) and I need a break once a while (truthfully, I’ve got some work to catch up). So, 5xmom of Make$ Money$ stole a meme from John Chow and John Cow recently and was kind enough to let me steal this meme from her. It’s a meme about PabloPabla @ Delicious Asian Food.
Here goes 8 further facts about this site and me.
1. I would say that the ancestor to this site is actually a recipe site which I authored when I was in University. I was reading law then and happened to be experimenting with web site building back in 1995. A recipe site was the natural choice as I had some recipes then which I wanted to make sure I do not forget. The site was hosted at geocities but has since been removed after I came back to Malaysia. It was a text-based site. No nice pictures to drool at.
2. When I started blogging last year, this site was hosted at blogspot. The site still remains and retains the same domain name with an additional “blogspot” in-between. After earning some money through paid posting, I decided to buy this domain and it’s been enjoyable so far!
3. Though I have been putting in considerable effort for this blog, I really don’t know how long I will keep it up. I don’t think I will continue to be blogging 10 years from now!??! So, I have to figure out a way to save all my works here. Maybe compile into an electronic recipe book or something and sell them, eh? Any ideas?
4. What has kept me from continuing with this blog is the steady and increasing stream of visitors and loyal readers, some of whom have become more than readers but friends, who have taken time to comment and give feedback on the recipes I posted. The fact that there are currently 111 readers who subscribe to the feed of this site gives me immense pleasure to know that I have been able to reach out to them with recipes I inherited from my elders as well as my wife’s and my own. And you can not imagine how happy I am when I read comments saying that the recipes remind my commentators of their family cooking. This is what this blog aims to do - to keep traditional recipes alive!
5. My kitchen is fast accumulating lots of ingredients which I previously skip buying - especially sauces. Having a recipe blog motivates me to try out more recipes and keep churning them out.
6. My regularity with taking pictures of food I cook has resulted in my daughter of 4 years old reminding me to take pictures of food whenever I forget to do so. It is not that I forgot. Rather, it may be something not tempting or had previously featured here. So, my daughter now has a food photo-taking dad
7. I STILL have not bought an oven. If I get my hands on one eventually, you WILL see lots of oven-cooked dishes. Bear with me, will ya? Otherwise, do click on the “Paypal Donate” sign on the right and expedite this process. Heh! Heh!
8. Lastly, blogging about food has brought much excitement to family life. Sometimes my wife and I will discuss what we shall cook (with the view that it should be fit for this blog as well). My mum has also revived some of her old forgotten recipes as well as trying new recipes and supporting my blogging here. I have a couple of those recipes ready but need to finalise the measurements of ingredients. You see, home cooking is not a precise art. We don’t really use measuring spoons in our cooking. It is more of “feeling” it right.
And so, like in the tradition of tagging, I shall highlight 8 food bloggers whom I stalk which I hope you will find droolicious too!:-
